Chilworth Manor Hampshire Weddings
Photography by Darren Matthews – Hampshire Wedding Photographer
Chilworth Manor Southampton is just a few miles from where we are based & has been a regular venue for us to attend over the past 14 years to capture the wedding day events. We are also pleased to be exhibiting at the Chilworth Manor Wedding Fayres from 2018 onwards, which is recognised as one of the most popular fayres for all bride & grooms to attend getting hitched in Hampshire or surrounding counties.
In this gallery I have included some highlights showing how this venue offers so much potential for great photography, both outside using the extensive patio, garden & woodland areas to inside the hotel and the splendid galleried lounge, panelled walls, open fireplace & grand staircase.
Chilworth Manor is another venue we work very closely with at every wedding attended to ensure the best possible experience for all bride & grooms and for all their guests too, resulting in stunningly beautiful & natural wedding photography.
St Mary’s Church Portchester Wedding
by Darren Matthews Hampshire Wedding Photographer
This year has started out with us having a flurry of enquires from couples getting married at St Marys Church in Portchester this year, in 2019 & into 2020 too – so about time I wrote this blog page with a gallery that shows how fantastic this church looks in the photography. Situated in the grounds of Portchester Castle, this church is yet another historic landmark here on the south coast, that we are blessed with to use as a setting & backdrop to our wedding photography.
We followed Claire & Patrick’s wedding day from start to finish, but this gallery picks up from us meeting Patrick at the church & shows highlights of their beautiful mid-September wedding ceremony. St Marys Church in Portchester is a perfect example of why 2 photographers are a necessity to capture so much more of the ceremony with the minimal of fuss. More importantly it means we don’t need to move around during the ceremony & being a distraction, an approach that all the churches are extremely happy with. Just as important are our professional lenses used at very wedding, it means we can still capture all the action from a distance, even in very low light – which is just about every church in the country.
Although not possible on this wedding day, there is the opportunity (if we ask the National Trust nicely) to take the Bride & Groom into the grounds of Portchester Castle Keep on the day to create some stunning photography and we would be happy to give assistance in arranging.
If your wedding day is at St Marys Church in Portchester then contact me for a copy of our wedding photography brochure by email at email@example.com or via the contact page at www.sdmimages.co.uk
Oakley Hall Basingstoke Wedding Photography
by Darren Matthews – Hampshire Photographer
Lynne & Steve’s recent wedding day at the very elegant Oakley Hall in Hampshire was such a privilege to capture, all set within the 18th Century architecture & modern, contemporary interior design of this wonderful wedding venue. We followed the entire day from Lynne getting ready with her Bridesmaids & Little Flower Girl through to the start of the evening entertainment & their spectacular first dance. A truly beautiful day with all the Oakley staff being the perfect hosts.
Oakley Hall is a pleasure for us as dedicated wedding photographers & offers a near endless amount of locations throughout the grounds to capture both classic & contemporary images at every wedding. Here are just a few highlights from Lynne & Steve’s day to show some of the variety of photography we take with a naturally informal approach & style.
We are pleased to be part of Oakley Hall’s bi-annual wedding fayre & look forward to exhibiting there again in the future.
Southend Barns Chichester Wedding Photography
By Darren Matthews – Wedding Photographer
Southend Barns near Chichester offers a great location for a barn style wedding day with outdoor areas for everyone to relax & enjoy the wedding day events. From the stunning 200 year old Threshing Barn, the Dairy Barn to the landscaped gardens & hidden courtyards this was the perfect location for Jill & Shaun’s July wedding.
They chose Southend Barns because Jill & Shaun very much wanted an outdoor, English countryside feel to their wedding day with plenty of open & sheltered areas for them both to spend time with all their family & friends. They both fell in love with this stunning venue the first time they made a visit as a potential venue for their big day.
Although not a strict requirement for their guests, Jill asked any attending to come in 1950’s dress & many did, which looks amazing & vibrant, bringing something special to much of the photography. They also had birds of prey (just love the close up taken of Jill with the owl) along with plenty of garden games for everyone to enjoy.
As you can see from this gallery Jill & Shaun had also arranged to have a full-size fairground carousel which was an absolute scream & enjoyed even more by the adults than the children. A complete & wonderful wedding day for the Bride & Groom, their guests & so much fun for their photographers too!
Rivervale Barn Wedding Photography by Darren Matthews Hampshire Wedding Photographer
No ordinary barn I must say, Rivervale is a contemporary wedding venue that we have attended as professional wedding photographers & a location that offers so much when it comes to creative photography.
Your day can start in the wonderfully rustic Cornerstone Cottage for bride & bridesmaids to get ready, a very impressive oak chapel style civil ceremony, followed by a drinks reception in the Rivervale gardens or Mediterranean garden courtyard.
We love the Dining Barn with it’s rustic simplicity & such a spacious area for all your guests to enjoy the wedding meal. As Rivervale Barn Photographers we can move unobtrusively to capture all the natural, candid moments during the meal, the speeches being given, to you both greeting & chatting with your family & friends at every table.
As the sun sets & into what we call the “golden hour” in photography we can still head outside for some more fun, more relaxed photography before heading back into the reception barn area to relax, chat, dance & throw some shapes on the dance floor.
Some fantastic & contemporary photography at a contemporary barn wedding venue. The perfect match.
~ New Place Hotel Southampton Wedding Photography~
~ Hampshire Wedding Photographer Darren Matthews ~
New Place Hotel at Shirrell Heath nr Southampton has been another popular venue for our couples & seeing us, as a Hampshire Wedding Photographer, capture a number of weddings here over the years. It’s a great location with photographic opportunities outside, in their extensive grounds but also inside the hotel with ornate stonework & wood panelled rooms.
In this blog gallery I have included highlights from 2 very different wedding days, to show the range of photography available any time of year at this venue. We start with Leanne & Tim’s gloriously sunny & warm summer’s day wedding when we were able to spend the majority of the day outside & into the beautiful low light of the evening as the sun was setting.
This is followed by highlights from Kelly & Darren’s winter wedding held in December just before Christmas when daylight is restricted but we still managed to capture some of the action outside, even for this time of year.
If you are planning your glorious wedding day at New Place Hotel then contact me on Tel. 023 8027 6828 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for further details & I can present more wedding photography from this location.
~ Careys Manor Brockenhurst New Forest Wedding Photographer ~
~ Hampshire Wedding Photography by Darren Matthews ~
Tucked away in the leafy world of the New Forest is the charmingly classic wedding venue of Careys Manor in Brockenhurst & the beautifully sophisticated setting for Samantha & Andrew’s October wedding day.
With an intimate wedding planned with all their close family & friends, Samantha & Andrew chose Careys Manor not only for its elegant country manor charm but also for the feeling of exclusivity they are able to offer to every wedding, with undivided attention to detail throughout the day, not just for them but to all their guests too. A relaxed, fun & informal wedding day, all with a sense of style was this Bride & Groom’s main criteria for their big day.
From our pre-wedding meeting Samantha & Andrew wanted us to capture everything from Samantha getting ready through to the speeches being given before the start of the wedding breakfast. With a single location, this is a half day photography option & available for all winter weddings as a Digital with Wedding Album Option which Samantha had already chosen, so we knew we were going to be designing a fantastic wedding album for them to cherish for years to come. Digital Only Options are available too.
It was unseasonably warm so this autumn wedding gallery shows how magical the sunlight can be at this time of year in Southern England, it’s all about using the perfect studio lighting that mother nature gives us for free. It’s a dream & almost like you can point the lens in any direction & get fantastic results. Ok. Sure. It’s not that easy, but making it look easy is the reason for having a professional Hampshire wedding photographer in the first place.
We had fun using Careys Manor secret garden with the floral art created by Little Lilies & of the children enjoying the day followed by the personal & funny speeches given by the bride’s father, the groom & the best man.

~ The Tithe Barn Ditcham Petersfield Wedding Photography~
~ by Darren Matthews Hampshire Photographer ~
Tithe Barn in Ditcham near Petersfield was the perfect setting for Abbie & Aaron’s gloriously sunny, summer wedding in August & a venue we have had the privilege to attend many times over the past 12 years as professional Hampshire Wedding Photographers.
Our photographic journey with Abbie & Aaron started around 2 years before their wedding day with a Pre-Wedding / Engagement Photography Session held on the coast at Lee-On-Solent here in Hampshire, so I have included a few of these at the start of the gallery, to show the full story we love to tell in our photography & for all our clients.
Tithe Barn as a Grade II listed building is a stunning backdrop for couples looking for an exclusive venue for their wedding day events, for them both & all their wedding guests too. Tithe Barn is also registered to hold civil marriage ceremonies & so a perfect venue for bride & groom’s looking for a single location wedding. It’s another venue that we work closely with on every wedding day to ensure everything runs smoothly & for everyone to relax and enjoy the day.
We started the day at the amazingly rustic Dunhill Barn just a few miles away to capture Abbie getting ready helped by her mother, bridesmaids, flower girls. It’s a great start to the wedding photography story, showing all the preparations & build up before the ceremony and the events that Aaron (the groom) did not get to see. We instantly knew that the moments captured here were going to be the impressive start to their storybook wedding album.
Then on to Tithe Barn to meet up with Aaron, his father (who was also his best man) & the Ushers all ready for just 5 mins photography, suited & booted and looking very cool. We could then step back and see them meeting & greeting the wedding guests as they arrive & the last-minute preparations before the Bridal Party arrive. This candid, photo-journalistic photography is essential to us as professional wedding photographers, as it tells the real wedding day story.
From our pre-wedding meeting with Abbie & Aaron 6 weeks before we had already confirmed with them the events & timings of the day, which ensures nothing is missed, the group photos they requested were weaved naturally into the day’s events & made fun for everyone too. Our 15 mins of bride & groom photography time results in something truly magical, without taking them away from their guests for too long. Most importantly we know what has been planned, so we can look for the unexpected, unplanned & unique wedding day moments.
After the wedding breakfast & speeches we were blessed with truly beautiful evening sunlight, which is so magical and a dream for every photographer & a great time to grab the bride & groom just for a few minutes but also for photo requests from family & friends too. We then headed back inside to see Abbie & Aaron do the traditional thing of cutting the cake & hit the floor for their first dance.
We are pleased to say our journey does not end here with Abbie & Aaron, shortly after presenting their photography we were contacted by Grace & Ollie to photograph their wedding day in June 2018. Grace is Abbie’s sister & bridesmaid in this gallery & Ollie was one of the good-looking ushers. We have already met up in the New Forest for their Engagement Photography Session & looking forward to writing a post about their wedding day at Old Thorns Hampshire in 2018.

~ Montagu Arms Hotel New Forest Wedding Photography by Darren Matthews Hampshire Photographer ~
The Montagu Arms Hotel at Beaulieu in the heart of the New Forest is another great venue we are pleased to include in our portfolio as Hampshire & New Forest Wedding Photographers. We love the intimacy this location offers to all couples looking for a venue dedicated to their wedding day events & turning their 4 star hotel into your exclusive country house “home from home” wedding venue for everyone invited to celebrate the day, enjoy the opulent rooms & elegantly romantic gardens.
We captured Pamela & Andrew’s wedding day events on a wonderful summers day towards the end of June, starting with Pamela & her bridesmaids getting ready just a few miles away & then meeting up with Andrew & his best man at Monty’s Inn next to (& part of) the Montagu Arms Hotel.
Our objective is to follow, capture & tell the real wedding day story just as it happens, with a natural, non-intrusive, photo-journalistic approach with wedding guests arriving, meeting & greeting, Pamela’s very stylish arrival in her father’s bright red E-Type Jaguar, capturing Andrew the groom just as he is, informal & relaxed laughing & joking with all the guests.
Pamela & Andrew wedding ceremony was held in the elegant Oakwood Room with it’s perfect natural lighting for photography followed by reception drinks and canapés in the hotel gardens. Having plenty of time to meet & greet all of their guests together we were then able to spend 15 mins or so with the group photos they had requested during our pre-wedding meeting 6 weeks before, an entire group photo plus some very stylish confetti throwing shots too. All taken with a sense of fun to ensure everyone enjoys the experience & wanting to be part of the photography.
The Montagu Arms offers some fantastic & very stylish locations for the Bride & Groom Only photography too & another reason why we love this venue so much. From inside the hotel with it’s oak panelled walls & staircase, the terraced gardens plus we had a E-type Jaguar parked at the hotel entrance – we couldn’t have had a more stunning classic setting for their wedding photography.
3 very good speeches were given before the wedding breakfast, but we were still there throughout the meal to capture the bride & groom, plus other members of the wedding party getting up in between courses to laugh & chat with all their family & friends around the other tables situated in The Terrace Restaurant.
The early evening was time for everyone to relax in the Magnolia Lounge, see the evening guests starting to arrive & a great time for any other group photo requests. Requests are so much fun at every wedding as most guests have had a glass of wine or 2 by this stage, as you can tell by the stag night guys photo in this gallery.
We completed the day with Pamela & Andrew’s First Dance followed by everyone hitting the dance floor to throw some shapes & kicking off the start to the evening entertainment. A truely amazing wedding day, a fantastic Bride & Groom and a stunning wedding venue!

Lainston House in Sparsholt nr Winchester here in Hampshire is another luxury 17th Century Country House Hotel that is right on our doorstep & another venue that, as Hampshire wedding photographers we have had the privilege to capture several couples very special day in our creative photography style.

As an alternative to this, I will be posting a blog from a wedding day with a ceremony at Romsey Abbey & Lainston reception & will place a link in this blog once that is ready to view.
This gallery shows some of the highlights from Vicky & Lee’s wedding, a genuinely fun couple who enjoyed a marvellous day at this venue with all their family & friends. It was great to be chosen to as their wedding photographers, we thoroughly enjoyed the day’s events & one of my personal favourites is towards the end with them walking away from the helicopter. Hey, who’s to say that’s not how they arrived!
Most importantly our clients were both extremely pleased with the final results ….. “such wonderful memories, you captured the day so beautifully & massive thanks to you both” Vicky & Lee
